Where Is ? ,

Xûr is Destiny 2’s Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game’s most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you’re a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That’s where we come in.

Sometimes, while working on the command line, we just need to quickly find out the location of the binary file for a command. Yes, the find command is an option in this case, but it's a bit time consuming and will likely produce some non-desired results as well. There's a specific command that's designed for this purpose: whereis.

Xûr appears every Friday at 17:00 GMT (10:00 Pacific), and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We’ll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you’re reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he’s selling this week.

Ever since the Forsaken expansion, Xûr’s icon no longer appears on your director, so he’s not quite as easy to track down as he used to be. That said, his appearances in the EDZ, Titan, Nessus, Io, and The Tower have so far been in the same places he frequented in vanilla Destiny 2. When he appears in the Tangled Shore or Dreaming City (as he surely will) we’ll be sure to let you know exactly where.

Debate

Xûr is back at the Tower this week, near Dead Orbit. He is selling:

  • Vigilance Wing, an Exotic primary pulse rifle, for 29 legendary shards
  • St0mp-EE5, Exotic Hunter leg armour, for 23 legendary shards
  • One-Eyed Mask, an Exotic Titan helmet, for 23 legendary shards
  • Chromatic Fire, Exotic Warlock chest armour, for 23 legendary shards
  • A Fated Engram, which guarantees a non-duplicate Exotic, for 97 legendary shards.

Vigilance Wing is a handsome pulse rifle themed after the rogue Warlock Osiris – the lore tab indicates it was intended as a reward from his Trials. It fires a five-round burst, and will grant health regen and movement speed when nearby allies are killed. Its second perk, Last Stand, improves its performance when you’re the last fireteam member left alive, which seems designed to let you clutch in PvP. It’s definitely a Crucible gun – there are simply better uses for your Exotic slot in PvE – and it’s performed well for us so far: stability is high enough that the five-round burst stays accurate at medium ranges, which enables three-burst kills. Stay near your team for the occasional boost when they die. Overall: mid-to-high tier in PvP, unnecessary otherwise.

St0mp-EE5 makes for a wonderful mobility tool, enhancing what’s already a Hunter’s best asset. Better sprint speed and slide distance, as well as improvement for your basic air boosters like High Jump, Strafe Jump, and Triple Jump. You’ve also got reduced grenade cooldown and more frequent drops for primary ammo – in short, these boots let you do everything you normally can, but faster. That makes them very useful for closing the distance in PvP, and can be quite handy for pesky jumping puzzle in PvE, too. A versatile tool, even if it doesn’t have the flashier perks of other Exotics.

One-Eyed Mask offers the Vengeance perk, marking enemies that damage you. Kill a marked enemy and you get bonus damage and overshield. It’s simple, it helps you in basically every situation with broad buffs. It’s an absolute monster in Crucible, and if you want to compete there you’re probably going to want the benefits of OEM.

Where Is Normandy

Chromatic Fire offers Crystalline Transistor, which creates elemental explosions based on your subclass when you get precision kills with a kinetic weapon. Explosions are always fun – and the area of effect damage is similarly appreciated. For bonus enjoyment, pair with Ace of Spades. Your explosive precision bonuses will double up to maximise the good times.
