Season Pass and DLC

The Season Pass for Soul Calibur VI will cost an additional $29.99 if you don't get it with the Deluxe Edition, a little more on that in the next section. Purchasing the Season Pass will give gamers Tira on Day One, and it will include four post-release content drops.

Tira was announced well before the game's release, which caused a bit of an uproar, but as it turns out, she was a late addition to the game after fans made it known they wanted the quirky, but devastating character included. As usual, fans who don't purchase the Season Pass can buy the DLC a la carte, but that will obviously cost more in the long run.

The Collector's Edition Does Not Include The Season Pass

There are three editions to the game. There is a Standard Edition for $59.99, which only includes the game. There is a Deluxe Edition which goes for $99.99 if you purchase the physical copy. It comes with a metal case with built-in sound snippets from the voiceovers in the game, the soundtrack on a disc, and the DLC season pass. If you buy it digitally, the price is only $89.99 because you don't get the physical items. The most expensive version is the Collector's Edition.

It costs $149.99. It comes with the game, a 120-page book of character art, the metal case with built-in sound snippets from the voiceovers, the soundtrack, a collector's edition box, and a Sophitia figurine. Unfortunately, the Collector's Edition does not include the Season Pass. I confirmed this with a Bandai Namco representative.

This means that fans who want the Collector's Edition and the Season Pass have to fork over just under $180. That's pretty steep and unfortunate.

Most of the characters in the game are from past versions, but there are at least three new ones coming to Soul Calibur VI. Groh uses a Double Sabre called the Aerondight Replica. Geralt is the main character from The Witcher, and he makes his SC debut in this title. Azwel uses a Palindrome as his primary weapon and looks to be one of the more mystical characters on the roster.

Unreal Engine

For the first time in the series history, the game will run on the Unreal Engine. As the franchise attempts to make a name for itself on this generation of consoles, we're expecting to see enhanced visuals and animations. Switching to the Unreal engine might be the answer.

New Combat Systems

• Reversal Edge: This primarily defensive maneuver results in a slow-motion effect that triggers a short mini-game between the characters. It is decided by a rock-paper-scissors like competition with the winner gaining an advantage in the situation.
• Lethal Hit - This is a new high powered strike that can nearly obliterate your opponent with one strike. There is a cooldown and the necessary acquisition process to keep the move from being spammed.
• Soul Charges - This is a temporary power-up that can be used almost like a comeback maneuver. It alters the look and partly changes the character's appearance.

Olympic Fencer Vouches For Swordplay

The Soul Calibur series has always been rooted in fantasy, but at its heart, it contains tons of swordplay. Who better to evaluate the mechanics of that type of combat than an Olympic fencer? Team USA Bronze medalist Miles Chamley-Watson lauded the feel of Soul Calibur VI after a preview. He said, 'It's incredible to see fencing, real fencing. Real moves, real everything in that game at that level. When you're in the game, it kinda feels like you're actually fencing.'

Beta Feedback

After a network test, most fans came away impressed by the connectivity. It was reportedly easy to find a match and the action was reasonably smooth. The verdict was split on some of the new gameplay features. Although, most who have caught wind of or experienced the story modes have been pleased.

Considering that was a major issue with the last version, it's a good sign for hardcore fans.

Character Creation and Libra of Soul

The character creation concept in Soul Calibur has long been one of my favorite aspects of the series. I wish more fighting games would allow for a deep character creation suite. In Soul Calibur V, the creation suite was a little shallow. This version has taken the chains off the theme and given gamers far more freedom. There is an option to choose a race for your character as well as customizing limbs, hair, and other features.

Moreover, there is even a mode designed specifically for your created character. Here is a look at the first 15 minutes in the mode. It's called the Libra of Soul.

Hi friends, somewhat new to SC here. I am becoming very frustrated by one of the tutorials in Libra of Soul. My character uses Siegfried's style and right now I have to perform a Lethal hit. The directions it gives says 'Landing attacks under certain conditions, for example pressing L1 (square + triangle) when countering a reversal edge, will register your attack as a lethal hit.' The opponent is continually using reversal edges and I can time my L1 to counter that attack no problem, a 'Counter' sign does appear under my portrait, but it's not counting as a Lethal Hit. Am I missing a step or not understanding the directions? I have absolutely no idea what else to do here. Appreciate any and all knowledge shared.
